It is generally the case that the Licensing and Specifications of Taxis are regulated by the New South Wales Government Department of Transport for NSW and the New South Wales Taxi Council. It is generally the function of these regulations to control the application, criteria and provision of licenses, and to ensure ongoing compliance.

With the introduction of Uber, and other rideshare schemes, the NSW Government through the Transport Roads and Maritime Services is gradually introducing reforms which will be completed by around 2017. Presently, until such reform is implemented, it is generally the case that the following regulations must be complied with:

  • Hold a valid Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) Driver Authority (DA) issued by Roads and Maritime Services;
  • Register your vehicle for business use at a Service NSW centre or registry;
  • Ensure that the car you use to provide services is roadworthy and maintained appropriately.

At Navado, we may be able to assist you in complying with present regulatory schemes and to assist you if any dispute arises in relation to alleged noncompliance. If you seek work in a Taxi, we may be able to offer your assistance in seeking your license, appealing denied licenses or are seeking an advice regarding your level of compliance.  Additionally, if you work in the rideshare industry, or have concerns in relation to rideshare rights, we may be able to assist you as the NSW Government continues their transition to the updated regulations.

If you have a complaint against a Taxi driver and are concerned they are in breach of the applicable standards, or if their conduct amounts to a criminal offence, Navado may be able to assist you from advising as to your rights and assisting you if your dispute becomes a Police matter.
