Marketers embrace product placement for a variety of reasons, including the ability to reach a captive audience (particularly as technologies that allow consumers to miss traditional advertising increase), show their brands in use, build associations with a character, gain an implicit endorsement, elicit emotions and gain exposure.

However, there are concerns about the practice of product placement. One particular area of concern focuses on the legality of placement practices. There are also ethical issues concerning product placement and sponsorship that marketers need to be aware of.

A significant issue for marketers today is all the commercial clutter. Consumers are exposed to advertising frequently and as a result are not affected by the strategic placement of products in the media.
