The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) possesses regulatory jurisdiction over broadcasting including television, radio, internet, and telecommunications. Television is the only medium that has formal requirements per section and subsequently the ACMA will only hear complaints about access to television services.

If you are making a complaint against a Broadcaster you must make a complaint directly to the Broadcaster to determine whether your complaint falls within the protections of a code of practice. Pursuant to the legislation, broadcasters bear the primary responsibility for the material they broadcast.

If you are making a complaint against the Australian Press Council you must first assess whether the complaint concerns Australian print media, which includes newspapers and magazines, as well as associated digital outlets, such as a website.

The jurisdiction of the complaint outlet will depend on the nature of the complaint. Our media lawyers can assist you by advising you of the relevant complaint processes and outlets and attend to the drafting of your complaint. We can liaise with the relevant media authorities and negotiate acceptable outcomes on your behalf.

If you would like to make a complaint against the media, you should make an appointment to see one of our Media Law Solicitors. Please contact us on (02) 9233 4048 or send an email to info@navado.com.au to arrange a consultation.
