Speeding offences in New South Wales generally carry a penalty of a fine and the loss of demerit points. Certain speeding offences, for example exceeding the speed limits by more than 30km/h or 45km/h carry a suspension period as well as a fine and the loss of demerit points. If you are caught speeding in a school zone, generally the fine and demerit points you lose will increase.
Generally speaking, if you are caught speeding you will be charged with one of the following speeding offences:
- Exceed speed by not more than 10km/h
- Exceed speed by more than 10km/h but not more than 20km/h

- Exceed speed by more than 30km/h but not more than 45km/h
