In broad terms, a person suffering from a Mental Disorder has a low ability to function in normal life and whose behaviour is so irrational that a reasonable person would view their behaviour and/or aptitude as one that would justify grounds for temporary care, treatment or control.

Mental Disorders are associated with particular regions of the brain and combine a number of aspects, such as feelings, actions, thoughts and perceptions. Common Mental Disorders include depression, dementia, schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder.

If you are a person with a Mental Disorder or the caregiver, parent, family or friend of a person with a Mental Disorder and legal assistance is required, it is important that you contact a Mental Health Lawyer.
