"Family disputes" is an extremely broad topic that can cover any internal family conflict. This can range from disputes between parents as to the care and maintenance of infant children, disputes between siblings as to the best care arrangements for elderly parents, disputes about the operation and management of a family businesses, to disputes about the sale of properties co-owned by family members.
Alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as conciliation and mediation may assist family members reach a mutually agreeable outcome and resolve the dispute without legal recourse. Both conciliation and mediation involves a third person assisting the parties in identifying the points of contention and assist in the discussion process. The main difference between conciliation and mediation being that mediators are always independent persons and it is typically conducted on a more formal basis.
