Microchipping Requirements:

Overview FAQs Articles Locations

Microchipping of a cat or dog is a way of allowing for the identification of a pet if they are lost. Each microchip has a unique identification number that is implanted under the skin of the dog or cat. When the microchip is scanned the details of the owner are displayed.

Microchipping must occur from the time the dog or cat is 12 weeks old or earlier, if the pet is sold prior to this age. A failure to microchip is an offence and a penalty may be issued by the Local Council.

If you have any questions regarding your obligations as an owner of a dog or cat, you may wish to contact our firm and arrange an appointment to see one of our Animal Law & Pet Law Solicitors. Please call us on (02) 9233 4048 or send an email to info@navado.com.au.
