Overview FAQs Articles Locations

A control order is a Court order requiring a dog owner to take certain steps to reduce the likelihood of the dog attacking another animal or person. The Court may require the owner to:

  • De-sex the dog;
  • Undergo ownership training; or
  • Register the dog for appropriate behavioural training.

A control order can be made by the Court at the following times:

  • During proceedings for certain offences under the Crimes Act or offences under the Companion Animals Act;
  • If a dog is declared a dangerous dog and the owner lodges an appeal at Court; or
  • If the Court makes a declaration that the dog is a dangerous or menacing dog.
