Self Managed Superannuation Funds [ SMSF ]

Statistically, Superannuation is the second largest asset of many Australians.

Superannuation is a vehicle that allows you to invest moneys during your working life, to assist you to ultimately fund your retirement.  Especially over the more recent years, there has been a shift towards people taking control of this very important Investment, through the use of Self Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF).

Some of the benefits available in establishing a SMSF include but are not limited to:-

  • Providing the SMSF complies with regulations, the maximum tax payable on contributions and earnings in a SMSF is 15%; and
  • The SMSF allows you Freedom of Investment, where you can decide how and where to invest your Superannuation Funds for the best returns. A SMSF can be used to fund investment options that might otherwise not be currently available, such as Property Investment, Fixed interest Investments, Wholesale Managed Funds, Derivatives and other Investments. A SMSF can invest up to 100% in Commercial Real Property, such as Family Business premises owned by members; and
  • Earnings of the SMSF during the pension phase (example allocated pension) are not taxable.  In addition, on retirement, assets can be rolled over into the pension phase and any Capital Gains on these assets will have nil tax applicable.
